Privacy Policy

Overview

By Two is a privacy-first coffee bean tracking app. All your data is stored locally on your device and optionally synced across your devices through iCloud. We do not collect, access, or transmit any of your personal information.

Data Storage

All information you enter in By Two—including coffee beans, roasters, tasting notes, ratings, and photos—is stored exclusively on your device in a local database. This data never leaves your device except through:

iCloud Sync: When enabled in Settings, your beans, roasters, and related data sync across your devices using Apple's CloudKit. This is encrypted, stored in your personal iCloud account, and managed entirely by Apple. You can disable sync at any time in the app's Settings. We do not have access to your synced data.
Automatic iCloud Backup: Your device automatically backs up the app's data as part of your standard iOS backup. This is handled entirely by Apple's operating system and follows your device's backup settings.

Camera & Autofill Feature

By Two includes an optional "Scan Bag" feature that uses your device's camera to automatically extract information from coffee bag labels:

Camera Access: Used only when you choose to scan a coffee bag. Photos are processed immediately and are not stored unless you choose to save them as a bean photo.
On-Device Text Recognition: Uses Apple's Vision framework to read text from images. All processing happens locally on your device.
On-Device AI Analysis: Uses Apple Intelligence (Apple Foundation Models) to identify bean names, roasters, and tasting notes from the extracted text. This AI runs entirely on your device—no data is sent to external servers.

All scanning and analysis is performed locally. No images or extracted text are transmitted to us or any third party.

Data Collection

By Two does not collect any data. Specifically:

No analytics or usage tracking
No crash reporting services
No advertising networks
No user accounts or registration
No servers or cloud databases (operated by us)
No personal information collection
No device identifiers collected
No location tracking
No camera images sent to external servers

iCloud Sync

When you enable iCloud Sync in By Two's Settings, your data syncs across your Apple devices using Apple's CloudKit. This sync:

Is encrypted and stored in your personal iCloud account
Is controlled by you through the app's Settings
Can be disabled at any time
Is managed entirely by Apple's CloudKit infrastructure
Follows Apple's iCloud Privacy Policy

We do not have access to your synced data. The sync is between your devices and Apple's iCloud service.

iCloud Backup

When you enable iCloud backup on your device (Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup), iOS automatically backs up the app's data along with your other app data. This backup:

Is encrypted and stored in your personal iCloud account
Is controlled by you through iOS Settings
Restores automatically when you set up a new device from backup
Is managed entirely by Apple's iOS, not by our app
Follows Apple's iCloud Privacy Policy

We do not have access to your iCloud backups. The backup is between your device and Apple's iCloud service.

In-App Purchases

By Two offers an optional "Buy Me a Coffee" tip. These transactions are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store any payment information.

Third-Party Services

By Two does not integrate with, connect to, or share data with any third-party services. The app functions offline and does not require an internet connection, though an internet connection is used for optional iCloud sync.

Children's Privacy

By Two is designed for adult coffee enthusiasts. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Data Security

Your data security is maintained through:

Local Storage: All data stays on your device, encrypted by iOS
iCloud Sync: When enabled, data is encrypted in transit and at rest in your iCloud account
iCloud Backup: When enabled, backups are encrypted in your iCloud account
No Network Transmission: No data is sent to external servers
Device Security: Protected by your device's passcode/Face ID/Touch ID

Your Rights and Control

You have complete control over your data:

Access: All your data is visible within the app at any time
Delete Individual Items: Delete specific beans, roasters, or notes anytime
Delete All Data: Use the delete options in the app to permanently erase data
Disable Sync: Turn off iCloud Sync in the app's Settings at any time
Uninstall: Deleting the app removes all local data (backups and synced data remain in iCloud until you delete them)

Data Retention

Data is retained:

On your device: Until you delete it or uninstall the app
In iCloud (sync): Until you delete items in the app or disable sync
In iCloud backups: According to your iCloud backup settings (typically until you delete the backup or stop backing up)

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy to reflect changes in the app or legal requirements. Updates will be posted with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
